✨Book Review✨
hola amigos / amigas / amigxs 🕊️ it is Latine Heritage Month so i have been giving some extra attention to my fellow latine & hispanic writers. i am especially excited to share my thoughts & favorite pieces from a fellow Alegría family member’s debut collection ☺️ today / tonight i bring you a look into “wisdom looks good on her” by Monica Salazar, also known as
@typawaypoetry“wisdom looks good on her” is a poignant & personal collection of poetry & prose exploring the various sources of insight, knowledge, & yes, wisdom, the author was able to absorb from throughout her life. i especially love the chapter names - wisdom: of self-love ; of family ; of love & heartbreak ; of friendship ; , or lack thereof, of the world around me - & how each touches on unique experiences
i also really enjoyed the photos & typewritten pages included in this collection. every piece memorializing her Mama, praising her father, revering her older sister & the way she’d style her hair for her - all of these deeply personal experiences, i believe, were able to be felt & resonated with through the family photos Salazar generously shared with us. i loved reading this collection as more of a poetic family scrapbook. really beautiful 🙏🏼
as i mentioned before it is Latine Heritage Month & i encourage you to support indie Latine writers like Salazar & buy her book! leave a review! post about her on the spot poetry! follow her page & connect with her especially if you’re in LA! as always, please scroll through for some of my favorite pieces in this collection (((my favorite is the excerpt on the last slide))) 🇲🇽🦋
