The John Lewis Christmas 🎄 advert is a massive UK 🇬🇧 cultural moment, but this year’s offering, Gloria and Pickles, leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to age representation.

On the surface, it’s a sweet festive tale. But look a little closer and you’ll see the hallmarks of everyday ageism.

From giving a 66-year-old woman 👩🏻‍🦳 an anachronistic 1940s-style name 👵🏻 to forcing her to play with toddler toys she would have been too old for, the ad treats older women as generic and, out-of-touch 🤦‍♀️

True inclusion means respecting the distinct generational identity of older people, not treating a late-Boomer like an old-fashioned caricature who has to build a disco 🪩 cave just to be liked.

Swipe through to see the breakdown, and let me know your thoughts below!

കുറ്റാരോപിതരുടെ ഫോട്ടോ ഇട്ടാൽ ജയിലോ ⁉️
People have little confusion with respect to sharing the photos of an accused. In a case. Generally, the only thing which you need to understand is you don’t have the right to share the photo of minor who is considered as child in conflict with law, but if the accused is above the age of 18 years, then you can share his recent photo. There is no problem with that.

Throughout the filming of Training Day, Denzel Washington heavily relied on improvisation, spontaneously creating many of his dialogues to give Alonzo Harris an unpredictable edge.

This creative freedom reached its peak at the end of the film, during the confrontation in which Harris tries to maintain his authority in front of the neighborhood residents. There, Washington delivers a long monologue that culminates in the iconic line, “King Kong ain’t got shit on me.” Despite being perfectly suited to the moment, the line was not in the original script.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Antoine Fuqua recalled that Washington improvised it during filming: “The King Kong moment came out of Denzel. I remember that moment because we were doing the scene, and he just started going off. I remember looking at the cameraman and saying, ‘I hope you got that because I don’t think we’re going to get that again’”.

Washington’s spontaneous performance gave rise to one of the film’s most memorable moments. His masterful portrayal of a corrupt police officer became one of the most defining performances of his career, even earning him the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year. Watching that improvised monologue, you don't see Washington.

The scene captures a man driven by greed and power, desperately clinging to whatever remnants of control he has left.
