Where everyday function meets artistic expression.
Tōgei: True to Clay, Free with Form at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA @amocamuseum) explores the breadth of contemporary Japanese ceramics, with a selection of sculptural and functional works organized by use—from tea bowls and vessels for food and drink to vases for ikebana and boxes for incense.
Rooted in traditions of practical use, these works also demonstrate how form, surface, and material can transform everyday objects. The exhibition highlights the relationship between ceramics, nature, and the rituals woven into daily life.
Explore Tōgei and discover the artistry behind these functional forms.
📍 American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA), Pomona, California
📅 On view through May 30, 2027
