When we made our 2027 Calendar, we started with the dates we all recognize—and then gave ourselves permission to reconsider what some of them ask us to celebrate.
So Columbus Day became Indigenous Peoples’ Day. January 6 became Truth Matters. Memorial Day became The Cost of War Day. July 4 became Unfinished Freedom Day. Labor Day became Death to Hustle Culture Day. Veterans Day became Honor the Soldiers, Question the Wars Day.
We didn’t rename these days because we think their histories should disappear. Quite the opposite. We wanted the names to hold a little more of the story.
Because a calendar isn’t just a way of marking time. It’s a record of what a culture has decided is worth remembering—and sometimes, we think it’s worth reconsidering the words we use to remember it.
