TLDR: I was diagnosed with severe diabetic retinopathy and have to get laser surgery in both eyes to save my vision 🫠

For those of y'all who don't know (which is most of y'all unless you know me irl), I've been type 1 diabetic for almost 21 years. Well as of recently, I've noticed some black specks in my left eye vision that have not gone away and never move, they're always there and have been for months. I finally got my eyes checked, and was diagnosed with severe diabetic retinopathy in both eyes. I now have to get laser surgery in both eyes, and as quickly as possible or I will lose my vision entirely. First appointment for laser surgery will be on my right eye on the 29th since it's more severe than my left, and left eye surgery will follow shortly after. I'll be getting injections around my eye to numb it before the laser procedure, and the procedure itself will take anywhere from 15-40 minutes. I am fuckin terrified, but at least I can prevent going blind, right? Idk what I'd do if I couldn't see the stars, the sunsets, my partner's gorgeous face, or ride my motorcycle anymore.

Anyways, to my fellow type 1 diabuddies out there, PLEASE take care of yourselves. It's literally a daily battle to keep yourself alive, and it sucks, it gets tiring, and sometimes you just wanna give up. But take it from me, slacking on it (like I did for for the first 13 years), will absolutely catch up to you.

Wait, you don’t go to the eye doctor at least once a year? I’ve done that since 1997 when I got Dia t1

I wish you the best of luck. You got this.. you are strong.. im glad your able to get the help you deserve. And good way to look at it if you were to go blind at least you got to see the stars and the sunset and your partner's face. At least you didn't go blind when you were born or younger. But on that note I hope you get to see for the rest of your life. Good luck little sis. Love you hope the procedure and all that goes well
