Democrat Gina Hinojosa secured victory over three-term Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the Associated Press said, a stunning flip in the country’s most populous red state after more than three decades of Republican leadership. With 67% of the expected vote counted, Hinojosa had 57% to Abbott’s 42%. Hinojosa, a 52-year-old lawyer and state representative, began her race as a Democratic longshot against a governor known for his political prowess and formidable campaign war chest. But she gained momentum from voter dissatisfaction with Trump administration policies and the economy under Republican leadership. Hinojosa surprised many Texas political observers by gaining on Abbott in polls ahead of the election, despite being vastly outspent. Her polling raised Democrats’ excitement in a state where they had not won a statewide seat since 1994. Photo: Bob Daemmrich/ZUMA Press

While Nicki Minaj has been busy showing her support for Donald Trump and Republican candidates, her former lawyers are trying to collect a pretty hefty check! According to Rolling Stone, the law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani claims Nicki owes $295,605 in unpaid legal fees, interest, and other costs stemming from a copyright lawsuit involving her song “I Lied.” The firm originally sued her in March and claims she has failed to respond to the lawsuit. Now, they’re asking a judge to award them the money through a default judgment. A hearing is scheduled for November 16. Nicki has not publicly addressed the latest filing, and the court has not yet awarded the requested amount.
