When
#QueenCamilla boarded her flight for a US State Visit earlier this year, she did so with an unexpected travel companion: a stuffed toy.
Her Majesty had commissioned a ‘Baby Roo’, the character immortalised in A.A. Milne’s
#WinniethePooh stories, from Shropshire-based teddy bear maker Merrythought, famed for creating the teddy bears owned by Milne’s son, Christopher Robin, which inspired the series.
Since 1987, the original Milne family toys – Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger, and Kanga – have resided at the New York Public Library. But one little member of the Hundred Acre Wood gang had been missing since the 1930s, when Baby Roo was thought to have been lost in an orchard.
Until Camilla arrived for her visit. To mark the 100th anniversary of Winnie the Pooh, Queen Camilla presented the Library with the new Roo, and thus, completing the set.
