Notes on 7 Years Of Recording Production

-I am most proud of my drum production improvement. We really knocking round here.
From getting my ass back on the drum kit, to teaching myself timpani, to unlocking new programming systems…
The thing that used to challenge me the most within my production, is now flowing like wataaa, and has become my favorite shit to do

-I tried, but Im still recording everything on the Shure 58. Vocals, Piano, Drums, Tambourines, Guitar.
My engineers who used to get stressed about this don’t even sweat it no more. I think we all know now when we pull out all the right mics, something happens within the playing that just don’t be bussinn.

-I gave up on the click track entirely. Tap ya foot sis.

-I have been writing, producing, and recording predominantly in Miami (S/O El Portal and Little Haiti) but have been fucking around and making a ton of shit in Upstate New York, Midtown, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Paris as well. These days I need to be producing in the south, and I can’t write lyrics unless I’m sweating a lil bit.

-Speaking of the soufff, most folks I been musically collaborating with lately reside in atllllll

-Me and my recording engineer brothers Nino and Blue still go together real bad. It’s just been me and them 90% of the time in the room over these past 7 years and their energy gives me so much charge. Me and Nino been rocking since Solo Star era. Blue and I since the True sessions but I think these sessions we have gotten to know each other the most. It’s crazy how much they have seen me grown and how much trust there is between us. They both move as slow and as fast as I do and for that I am forever grateful.

-I rarely get bounces at the end of the sessions no mo. My ears require breathing a lot more and all that obsessive retention and studying and microing in I used ta do, no longer serves me.

-I now like waking up mad early to edit drums, bass and keys in the quiet morning light when my monkey brain is more settled.

-I listened back to my piano on Scales from ASATT and have presently been trying to match that energy on the keys even though that joint was out of tune. The spirit is alive and well.
