An American Augustinian from Chicago ordained in 1982, he was a longtime missionary and later Bishop of Chiclayo in Peru, led the Augustinian Order worldwide from 2001-2013, and became Vatican Prefect for Bishops and Cardinal in 2023 before being elected Pope.

Before he became our beloved Pope Leo XIV, he was simply Father Robert Prevost — a sweet, humble Chicago boy who loved Jesus so much he used to play Mass at home as a little kid! 🥹 He became an Augustinian priest, spent many years as a missionary in Peru with so much love for the poor, serving as a parish priest and teacher, spoke Spanish with a big heart, and everyone knew him for his gentle smile and quiet, kind leadership. From a little altar boy on the South Side to shepherd of the whole Church — what a beautiful journey! 🙏❤️
