I’ve been saying for a long time- this should never have been allowed to continue beyond Burton- the whole thing needs to be put to death with an air pressurised cattle gun, No Country For Old Men-style.
Still, if it MUST continue, there’s some names being floated around and of course I feel Some Type of Way about all of em, and have my own suggestions, if we MUST.
First: Matieres Fecale @matieresfecales, the hot GOTH FREAKY DEAKY names on everyone’s lips, and one of our top picks for Names to Know for 2026, as specified by our silly asses at the start of this year. And fair! Their whole deal is extremely..let’s say..REFERENTIAL of McQueen, alongside Rick Owens, Denma’s Balenciaga and maybe even a lil of Mugler- their goth theatrics definitely position them as a frontrunner here, but what’s the point? They’re a thriving indie label with a huge buzz- I can’t see them chucking it to run someone else’s show.
Dilara Findikoglu is also a name that seems to be popping up- which is reasonable given her Brit roots and the label’s return to London, as well as her sweeping (again) baroque-goth vision and strong focus on ready-to-wear.
Then theres everyone pointing out Galliano’s status as a free agent after hanging it up at Margiela- but girl…there’s he’d be signed ON at Zara and i just cant see why he’d bother. PLUS the personal history is weird.
One of my FIRST LOVES as a baby goth was the incredible Gareth Pugh @garethpughstudio- now im not sure what that mf is up to these days but i absolutely could see his sculptural, dark, almost insectoid vision really taking flight (again) at McQueen…(cont)

I miss him so much 😪 I remember seeing the exhibition the powerhouse museum did and they had the pink frock coat with Lee’s hair sewn in the pockets from Jack the Ripper stalks his victims and just silently cried to myself :,-) RIP king

…taking another look at some of these designs, after a decade (or more!) I can really REALLY see so much of McQueen’s Horn of Plenty in there in particular and the ability to make a show a fuckin EVENT again, and not just a parade for a bunch of buyers and influencers. But you know, he’s probably on the very opposite side of the coin to someone like Dilara- as his Wiki says, “Due to his focus on experimental fashion, Pugh has had limited success selling wearable clothes. Instead, his projects are funded through patronage by Rick Owens and Michèle Lamy.” (A: those two are national treasures! B: Do you think Matieres Fecales and him know each other then? Intriguing! C: go the fuck off!!). Plus, I’m also an elder millennial and I’m TIRED and mostly want to smoke a joint over the sink while i talk to my dog and do a lot of nothing. Ahem. Anyway a name I’m not seeing pop up is HARRIS REED @harris_reed you guys!! Now I know he (they? Many apologies if my info is incorrect HR) just ended a storied run at Nina Ricci to focus on his own label and INTERIORS (slay) but he’s only 30 and has the kinda silhouettes and gender fuckery (and HAIR like a Botticelli painting) that could bring an ENTIRELY NEW but INCREDIBLY SUITABLE vision to McQueen.
