A wedding invitation can get expensive real quick. Somebody sends you a beautiful invitation, and before you even RSVP, you’re already trying to figure out how much this friendship is about to cost. Because it’s never just showing up. There’s travel, hotel rooms, clothes, a wedding gift, food, and possibly taking time off work. By the time everything is added up, somebody else’s big day can easily turn into a $1,000 weekend. And that’s where people start feeling bad. Nobody wants to miss a friend’s wedding, especially someone they’ve known for years. But there’s a difference between not wanting to celebrate somebody and genuinely not being able to afford it. What’s crazy is how some people will take it personally. As if declining an invitation automatically means the friendship doesn’t matter. Meanwhile, that person might be trying to keep their bills paid and groceries in the house. A thoughtful gift, a nice message, or even a phone call should still mean something. Not everybody has the same financial situation, and nobody should have to put themselves in a hole just to prove they care. A wedding invitation is an invitation, not a financial obligation. And a real friendship should be able to survive an RSVP that says no.
More things have landed in our corner of the internet. 〰️ Introducing the TOMORAMEN T-shirt, designed by our very talented companion @kyuju_ni. Now available in our online store, alongside a few other new additions. Find them via the link in our bio. 🤍 Missed your chance to pick these up on tour? No funeral, no obituary. Just a postcard with nine words and a selfie in yellow aviators 🕶️💌 Before he died, retired design professor Don Glickman gave his daughter, Leah, one last assignment: mail postcards to more than 100 of his favorite people, from former students to old friends and colleagues. Each one carried the same message in clean, bold type: “If you’re reading this, I’m dead, and I really liked you.” He picked the photo and the words himself. Weeks after his death at 94, the cards started landing in mailboxes. Many of the people who got them said they laughed out loud, because it was exactly how he’d always been: direct, funny and never shy about letting someone know they mattered to him ❤️ Media: @foxandwing / @glickmansend
