My vision for Gorilla Contracting: turn the exterior into an immersive experience. A place people would stop, photograph and remember.
Building on the company’s existing gorilla logo, I envisioned a brushed-metal installation with a slowly breathing orange glow against a full camo mural. My experience in the tactical industry, the grit of small trade crews and Virginia Beach’s military presence inspired the direction.
Malbon’s BBQ was a big inspiration, just two blocks away on the same side of the street, also facing General Booth. Its mural and pig mascot had become a local landmark. Shortly after my departure from this position, Malbon’s announced it was closing. A little of that landmark spirit lives on in this concept.
The mural was one part of a larger vision. Had the full concept come to life, the space itself would have sparked curiosity, conversation and organic sharing. My take on guerrilla marketing.
P.S. Thank you to the ViBe District
@thevibecreativedistrict for artist rec’s & Jeff for bringing the camo mural to life. Jeff was quick, professional and easy to collaborate with. He did beautiful work. [ Jeff Tarkenton |
