North By Texas (NXTX)

Many of you already know that our barbecue comes with a side of social justice—from the meat we use to the causes we support. The food is usually the focus, but now is no time to be silent—especially here in the city where our democracy began 250 years ago and the midterms a few weeks away.

Some of you may have noticed this image on walls or stickers around town over the last year. It’s part of Wake Up, America!, a side project I launched on July 4, 2025 with artist Shepard Fairey @obeygiant and other educators and lawyers to raise awareness of the threat of authoritarianism and strengthen democracy and civic education.

You can download the art for free at wakeupamericaofficial.org for non-commercial use. Print posters, signs, or stickers and share it. Check out the Resources page, too, and follow @wakeupamericaofficial for more.

Back with more BBQ and food content soon, but today on this #NoKings day we support @indivisiblephilly and their efforts to help people vote early and securely. Pennsylvania’s registration deadline is THIS MONDAY, October 19. Visit vote.pa.gov for registration and voting options, including how to vote before Election Day.
