Soleil
@solefulsoul doesn’t remember exactly who “Rubbish” is about. She wrote it with producer Dinni Bartholomew at least eight years ago, sitting in his house as he played a bass line and laid down a drum track, and the song went through several versions before it was ready.
In that time, the New York-born, Miami-based artist has built a career on both sides of the stage: a singer-songwriter and vocal producer rooted in Soul, R&B and Blues, and a DJ moving through Deep House, Amapiano and Afrobeats. She has sung as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, played an official Miami Music Week set, and is a voting member of The Recording Academy. “Rubbish,” her new single, arrives with a golden-hued music video, a nod to her name, which means sun in French.
In conversation with Voyage Immersive, Soleil discusses heartbreak and self-worth, reading a crowd from the DJ booth, and the one piece of advice she gives every young artist.
