In July, my dad passed away.

It was sudden. But I was blessed with something a lot of people don’t get: a few weeks by his side before he went.

I didn’t have to check my phone in that room.
I didn’t have to leave early to cover a class.
I didn’t have to choose.

The gyms ran smoothly without me. The classes were full, new members were joining us, and it was business as usual.

I think a lot about the owners who would have had to choose.

Because if your gym only works when you’re in the building, a moment like that becomes lose-lose.

You stay at the gym and miss the goodbye.
Or you go say goodbye and come back to a business that’s sinking.

Nobody plans for those weeks. That’s the point.

You don’t build systems for the good weeks. You build them for the weeks that break you.
