The Burger Trail 074 // Five Star Burgers // Taos NM
Some burgers are so tied to their location that you can practically taste the destination. Five Star Burgers’ Green Chile Cheeseburger is one of them. A burger so New Mexico you could taste it. Literally.
Loaded with roasted green chiles, pepper jack cheese, and zesty green chile mayo, this burger brings the New Mexico flavor in a big way. I loved the green chile flavor, but the patty itself needed a little more something. The first bite was great, and maybe it was that char flavor that had me hooked. But a few bites in, I found myself disappointed with how the whole thing came together. Honestly, the last time I had this burger, it was better. But I’ve got to stick to my guns and let the Burger Trail stop be the only one that counts. This is the burger that gets graded and it earned a solid B on overall flavor. There are some other New Mexico infused burgers on the menu but I’d be afraid I’d feel the same about them. I went with the regular fries and sweet potato fries combo as my side. The regular fries won the side-showdown, but the marshmallowy maple cream sauce that came with the soggy sweet potato fries was killer. At least someone showed up ready to play. The service at Five Star was a little lackluster, kind of like this rendition of the burger. Not a terrible experience, but not exactly a five-star performance either. Cheers to Five Star Burgers for bringing a taste of New Mexico to the Burger Trail!
