The Stern Pokémon Pinball Machine at Costco (Murrieta, No. 2026).

Murrieta, California.

The other day I steered my oversized cart through the vast, echoing cathedral of the local Costco like an explorer returning to a familiar yet endlessly surprising frontier. There, amid the usual mountains of Kirkland Signature bounty and towering pallets of household provision, something unexpected gleamed under the warehouse lights.

A full-sized Stern Pokémon Pinball Machine.
One approached with the quiet wonder of a traveler who has stumbled upon a forgotten arcade in a distant bazaar. The playfield beckoned—solid wood, commercially built, alive with the music and video of the animated series. An interactive Poké Ball target waited for capture sequences. A 10-inch high-definition LCD screen with dual speakers promised immersion into that bright, adventurous world of trainers, creatures, and epic journeys. I played it. Flippers clicked, ramps clattered, and for a few glorious minutes the concrete floors of the warehouse disappeared into the colorful chaos of Pokémon.

It stood there, roughly 250 pounds of pure nostalgic thunder, ready to be delivered (in a box, to the room of one’s choosing) as a Costco Direct treasure. The sort of grand, slightly extravagant discovery that turns an ordinary membership run into something almost mythic.

Price: $4,999.99.

You don’t just shop at Costco.

Sometimes you rediscover the arcade of your youth—and the urge to catch ’em all, one silver ball at a time.
