What if a house could learn from the way an anthill works?
In Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, ‘The Anthill by Kaushal Tatiya Architects’ (@kaushal_tatiya_architects) takes inspiration from nature’s network of chambers, passages and openings to rethink how a home responds to heat, light and airflow.
Curved brick balconies create shade, perforated *jaali* walls filter sunlight, and circular skylights bring daylight into a double-height living space. Inside, courtyards and shaded passages connect communal areas with more private rooms, making movement through the house part of the design experience.
Rather than copying the shape of an anthill, the project explores its underlying logic. It’s an interesting look at how nature can inform the way we build, not just the way buildings look.
