One of the most overlooked technical skills at the younger ages, in my opinion, is learning how to receive the ball on your back foot.
It is such a simple movement, but it can make a big difference in your ability to keep possession and play faster.
Opening your hips, scanning before receiving, and taking your first touch into space gives you more options on the ball.
I see so many young players receiving with their bodies closed, making it harder to see the field or play in different directions.
This is especially valuable for center backs and central midfielders.
It is something you can practice on your own, with a partner, or in team training.
Spend time developing this skill early. As the game gets faster and space becomes more limited, you will appreciate how valuable it is.
