Another Year, Another Tail!!! But this one was the most special of them all! Driving the NSX on the Dragon was a dream I expected to wake up from. In my dream car, my friends around me, chasing Supras and GTRs? How is this real life??? I am beyond blessed by the new faces I've met, the ones I continue to meet, and the 11 miles, 318 curves that bring us all together. The NSX had me speechless! This car tells you everything through the wheel and pedals. What a wild switchback dance partner! And can still hunt down sports cars nearly 30 years older than it! All while dropping jaws doing it! This driving season has been one for the record books, and I have this car to thank for it. I look forward to so many more incredible people and memories with my old unicorn🦄! 6 Year old me playing Grand Turismo 2 would have never imagined all this! Dearborn civil rights attorney Amir Makled made history Tuesday night, winning a seat on the University of Michigan Board of Regents and becoming the first Muslim and Arab American elected to the university’s governing board. Makled, a Democrat and outspoken supporter of Palestinian rights, gained statewide attention for defending University of Michigan students and protesters who faced criminal charges following pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus. In 2024, police dismantled a pro-Palestinian encampment at the university, leading to arrests and felony charges against several demonstrators. Makled represented one of the defendants, arguing that peaceful political expression should not be criminalized. In May 2025, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office dropped felony charges against seven people arrested during the demonstrations. Nessel maintained that the cases had merit but cited ongoing controversy surrounding the prosecutions. Makled’s advocacy extended beyond the courtroom. In April 2025, he reported being detained and questioned by federal agents at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after returning from a family vacation. Makled said agents questioned him about his legal work and sought access to his cellphone. Federal officials disputed his suggestion that the encounter was politically motivated. His campaign for the Board of Regents emphasized protecting free speech, defending students’ rights and increasing accountability within university leadership. Makled’s nomination also drew significant attention in April when Michigan Democratic Party delegates backed him over incumbent Regent Jordan Acker amid disagreements over the university’s response to pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The University of Michigan Board of Regents oversees the university’s governance, finances and major institutional policies. Makled’s election marks a historic milestone for Michigan’s Arab American and Muslim communities, bringing a new perspective to one of the state’s most influential public university governing boards.
