On October 20, 1977, the American Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd was involved in a fatal plane crash near Gillsburg, Mississippi.
The band had chartered a Convair CV-240 passenger aircraft to fly them from Greenville, South Carolina—where they had just performed—to their next tour stop in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
