I promise this is NOT a paid ad about @ezcater and @uber .

It’s an invitation to every independent caterer to start thinking about where our industry is headed.

If the way people discover, order, and receive catering is changing, what role do you want your business to play in it?

How will you make yourself valuable in this new buying experience?

I believe there is enormous opportunity for independent caterers who are paying attention, asking better questions, and thinking about what comes next.

The game is changing. What’s your next move?

I have tried to use EasyCater before and hated it. Just my opinion.

The cut that they take is too hard for me. Plus, I don’t know about now, but when they first started, they were not checking to make sure people were not cooking out of their homes and had license and insurance. 🤷. It definitely works for some people.

The great @tablewizard1 always speaks about how we as independent caterers need to eliminate the 3rd parties and work directly with our clients. Why? This is a relationship business. You can’t build relationships when a company like EZCater is part of the equation.

It will sound good at the beginning, but shortly after they will start to squeeze you on price. And as see affordability go down, corp lunches are the first to be cut. I dont know of any business in our area that does a 600 weekly lunches.

Anyone have any advise on services or brokers working with caterers? I have recently transitioned my biz from a food truck to solely catering business. Things like ez cater aren’t available in my area

I'm definitely not in the easy catering category. I genuinely feel that if it's easy, then it's not quality, it's not going to feed your soul. It sounds like fast food in bulk.

I’m on both platforms. I think this could be a net positive because they are a necessary evil.

There should be more options. Catering companies shouldn’t have to work with these monopolies to be seen. Not to mention the percentages that these companies expect from catering companies. There is an opportunity for smaller companies with fairer practices.

I've been dabbling with meal prep & delivery as a way to pivot away from all the crazy weekend events. I've been doing drop & go lunchboxes, sandwich platters, coffee pastries, etc for - since I started. It's my bread & butter during the off season, sustained me through the COVID shutdown, I love my business & corporate clients. And yes, they will turn to me for birthdays, showers, weddings, holiday company events and even celebration of life dinners
