The phrase became popular thanks to the 1994 children’s book Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney. In the story, a little hare and a big hare try to show how much they love each other. The little hare says, “I love you all the way to the moon,” and the big hare replies, “I love you to the moon and back.”
