The emergency Stop ICE protest was at noon today in SF. They power washed away any trace of it by 2:30. I stayed with my music, bubbles, and dragon till nearly 5, and played American Idiot as Dan Lurie walked past. I doubt he noticed. But I have to wonder what deal he has with the Orange One that has kept ICE quiet around here, compared to LA. I almost wonder if they’ve stayed quiet around the Bay Area because they haven’t wanted us to wake up.

But for all you Bay Area residents who think we’re safe…here’s your sign to WAKE UP!

A little bit of a reverse work in progress of both the painting and the sculpting of my latest piece: Tsuchykaa, First Scion of the Everqueen. You will be able to enjoy this process soon at @miniatureart_academy The last step here includes preparing and adding the cherry blossoms, which is a tedious process that revolves around taking apart @gamersgrass cherry blossom tufts, and separating the flower from the leftover plastic hairs one by one. After that, selecting the perfect size and shape of little branches of sea foam tree, painting them manually, and glueing the petals, to finish of by cutting any sharp almost microscopic branch of said sea foam try with a precision scissor. Painting wise, adding final levels of detail is always welcome and never ending. With my magnifying goggles I took 7 days to add detail inside of the detail. Subdividing areas of detail this way was a first timer for me. Oddly satisfying. The value and tone is right were I want it. And the bark has the right sensation. Time to put the goggles on. The arm is still not glued on to render several areas. First sketch and refinement on the metal. I wanted to go for a way subtle yet nuanced reflective surface. The key here was adding the cherry blossom reflections and interactions way before actually adding them. I always enjoy reflecting surfaces. First proper picture taken. Definition is still lacking and I was trying to get the right sensation for the bark. The main highlight here is adding breakages on it in order to add material differentiation. My friend @thibaut.rahm told me that this is an actual technique in Bonsai called Shari, which relies on removing the bark to generate scars on the tree in order to generate value and material differentiation. Second session of sketching, you can see at least a little bit of definition and placement of values on materials. I wasn’t brave enough to take proper pictures. First session of color. Using different approach than my normal one priming in black, I covered the mini with a bright grey primer from tamiya as recommended by my friend @andywardle_artwork instead of black made me use color and base coats in a different way.
