The 2026 U.S. midterm elections have delivered a wave of historic firsts, with candidates breaking long-standing barriers across the country.

Among the winners are the first Native American woman elected governor, the first Black woman to lead a state and the first Muslim American elected to the U.S. Senate.

The results also include the first openly gay man elected to the Senate, Florida's first Black governor and Texas' first Latina governor.

Gavin Newsom is trying to fight back. On Monday, Newsom announced another major expansion to the program that, if passed, would increase the annual credit from $750 million to $1 billion and allow a portion of pay for actors, directors and producers to qualify, among other changes.

At the link in bio, THR's Winston Cho and Katie Kilkenny dive into whether including above-the-line costs in incentives for shows like HBO Max's 'The Pitt' could lure more productions back to Hollywood.
