I had a random thought whilst driving, so naturally I had to pull over and talk about it 😂

“What’s the point in therapy? It’s not going to change the past.”

And you’re right. It won’t.

But here’s what I think we often overlook.

We don’t experience everything in isolation. Sometimes, how we respond to what’s happening today is influenced by what we’ve experienced before.

Loss, rejection, betrayal, conflict. Our previous experiences can shape what we anticipate, how we communicate, what we protect ourselves from and even what feels familiar.

And sometimes, we’re responding not just to what’s happening in front of us, but to what it reminds us of.

That’s where therapy can make a difference.

Not by rewriting your past, but by helping you understand the patterns, behaviours and ways of relating that may have developed because of it.

Because whilst we can’t change what happened, we can work towards changing how we understand, respond to and navigate what happens next.

The past belongs in the past, but that doesn’t mean its influence stays there.

Just a little car park reflection from your local therapist😂

So beautifully put , talking through things definitely helps to make sense of our stories and what we are experiencing and to get an outside perspective. we can get triggered by past traumas and react to that in the here and now and learning about that can help with relationships now. Our inner child nervous system’s can feel rejected at times by events that happen and again they are all past patterns that need healing and working on and to be bought into our awareness so we can heal them inner child wounds đŸ«¶đŸ©·
