Cat got your tongue?🐈‍⬛

Around the waterhole, the orphans peek into their future.

Every elephant see here is an orphan. The smaller ones are part of our dependent herd, and their towering friend is Challa, a 22-year-old rescued, raised, and rewilded through our Orphans’ Project.

Zoom out, and that future gets even greater. Waiting in the wings are entirely wild bulls — who even tower above Challa! They’re generously giving the youngsters space to drink, after the Keepers requested them to move off with a whistle and a wave. In the fullness of time, every small orphan you see here will join their ranks, reclaiming their place in the wilds of Tsavo.

Every day, these remarkable interactions unfold at our three Reintegration Units, where our dependent orphans learn how to live as wild elephants.
