11 days agoExtremely fond! Professor Craig was my freshman advisor and then my advisor throughout my four years. I remember standing at the Mill Stream awestruck one night around 9 or 10 PM as a Great Blue Heron waded, slow and stately, in the dark. Professor Craig appeared at my shoulder while passing by and we marveled at the heron together. I wish I had gotten into birding during my time at Willamette and taken some of his classes focused on birds! But I got there on my own and remain thankful to him for always being encouraging and always taking a moment to pause and admire a beautiful bird.
14 days agoVery fond!! one of my first memories with Dave, and studying biology in general, was hearing that he had 80 roadkill squirrels in the freezer to study them somehow! He was and is a friend in addition to a professor, works from love of the craft, and always extremely supportive of my unique goals, then and now!
