“Woe! Woe! Woe to thee, sister! Woe to the gods of Valhalla!” 💔🔥
⚡️Two sisters. Two worlds. One fateful ring.
In this devastating final exchange of Act I, Waltraute, portrayed by the magnificent Gwendolyn Killebrew, desperately begs Brünnhilde to surrender the ring and save the gods of Valhalla from their impending doom. But for Brünnhilde, sung with fierce conviction by Gwyneth Jones, the ring is far more than a treasure, it is the sacred pledge of Siegfried’s love.
✨Brünnhilde refuses to sacrifice the symbol of her beloved, even if her decision means the destruction of the gods. Waltraute’s anguished cry of “Woe! Woe!” echoes like a prophecy of the catastrophe to come.
🎭 Richard Wagner / Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods) 📍 Bayreuth Festival, 1979 🎼 Conductor: Pierre Boulez 🎬 Stage direction: Patrice Chéreau 👑 Brünnhilde: Gwyneth Jones 💔 Waltraute: Gwendolyn Killebrew

One of the most important and moving moments in the history of opera. Chéreau❤️ Unfortunately, it is extremely rare to see anything even close to this today. Fortunately, there are videos of these masterpieces.

Why not finish out the music for this scene in your clip? It's definitely a highlight from the recorded production. The story is classic of course, certainly the singers are perfect in this but the music is also very thrilling. There's a delightful orchestral description of a flying steed possibly flapping its wings and flying away.
