In 1865, an 18-year-old man placed an ad in a newspaper, reportedly in Maine, under the headline “Chance for a Spinster.” In it, he proudly listed everything he thought made him a good catch: a good set of teeth, support for President Andrew Johnson, the flag and the Fourth of July, and a farm with 18 cleared acres, a house, a barn, nine sheep, a bull and two heifers.

He also bragged that his buckwheat looked “first rate” and that his oats and potatoes were “bully,” 19th-century slang for excellent. He promised to provide bread, butter, hoop skirts and “waterfalls,” a fashionable women’s hairpiece of the time, for his future wife for the rest of her life. “I want to get married,” he wrote. “But I don’t know how to do it.”

The ad resurfaced in 2017 when Oxford researcher Max Roser shared it online, and it quickly went viral. Nobody knows if he ever found a wife.

Some of my favorite pics by @dennydenn and some personal BTS of Paladin’s nerd lair or as I like to call it “PALADISE”…

So, Welcome to Paladise!

…and yeah, it’s Is cool in person as it looked an ep 7. My favorite thing is in the airplane hanger was the original motorcycle and sidecar used by Harrison Ford and Sean Connery in Indiana Jones, and the last Crusade. I like to believe, with his discretionary spending, like me, Paladin buys movie props. He’s clearly a movie geek.

Working with these talented people in this amazing location was a highlight of the entire adventure.

Rock on my purple people. #visionquest
