Learning Beyond the Classroom! ππ°
What happens when Walt Disney World becomes your classroom? For students in Dr. Gattoβs ππ¦π¦ππ«π¬π’π―π πππ¨π«π²πππ₯π₯π’π§π (ππππ πππ: ππ©πππ’ππ₯ ππ¨π©π’ππ¬) class, the trip was about more than exploring the parks β it was about experiencing and analyzing how Disney creates immersive stories.
Throughout the trip, students completed hands-on assignments that challenged them to look at Disney in a whole new way:
π Pin Trading & World-Building β Students explored how physical objects, social interactions and storytelling can work together to create a deeper narrative experience.
π The Spatial Semiotics of Batuu β Students analyzed the architecture, materials, typography, props and environmental details of Galaxyβs Edge and how they help create the feeling of stepping into another world.
πΈ Photographic Storytelling β Students documented specific elements of Batuu and examined how visual design influences guest perception and immersion.
π Narrative Justification β Through pin trades and interactions with Cast Members, students created stories around physical objects and explored how role-play can transform an everyday interaction into part of the immersive experience.
From analyzing the details around them to creating their own narratives, MMSC 397 students learned that immersive storytelling isn't just something you study β it's something you experience. π§‘ππ€
