✈️ Getting to Eleuthera is half the adventure! 🌴⛵️

I was recently lamenting to @cardjr that our usually slow summer season on the island was a little slower than usual. A few theories come to mind:

1️⃣ Some of my former guests and also friends have gone on to build their own Airbnbs. 😂 More competition in paradise!

2️⃣ The cost of living and fuel prices are eating into everyone’s vacation budget.

3️⃣ The loss of Silver Airways left a real void in getting to our Out Islands.

I once audited the flight info for our guests and was surprised to discover that 90% flew @americanair to get to Eleuthera. But Silver always filled a much-needed gap when American suspended service for a couple of months every September.

Of course, some lucky folks fly in on their own planes. Others get creative with connections through Nassau. But there are more options out there than you might think!

I’ve flown @aztecairways dozens of times, and now we also have @flytradewind. Between commercial flights and these smaller charter services, there are still plenty of ways to get here if you’re willing to think outside the boarding gate. 😉

And then there’s my personal bucket-list adventure: arriving Eleuthera aboard the Nassau Mail Boat. I’ve had that one on my list for more than a decade. I think the nominal fare includes a ham sandwich, bring along a few cold beers and toss a hand line off the transom when no one is lookin and now you instantly have a low budget fishing charter! Sadly, I think I missed my chance to sail aboard the Current Pride — one of the last known original wooden cargo-passenger ferries — before she was decommissioned.

Here’s the thing about Eleuthera: getting here doesn’t have to be just a means to an end. It can be part of the story. ✨

Sometimes the best adventures begin before you even reach the island. 🌊
