This photo is said to show Ismael โ€œEl Mayoโ€ Zambada in the early 2000s, when he was already one of the most powerful figures in the Sinaloa Cartel. For decades, he managed to avoid capture, operating in the shadows even after his longtime partner, El Chapo Guzmรกn, was arrested and extradited to the United States. That changed on July 25, 2024, when he was taken into custody in the US after arriving in New Mexico alongside Joaquรญn Guzmรกn Lรณpez, one of El Chapoโ€™s sons. Zambada later claimed he had been kidnapped and taken there against his will. In August 2025, he pleaded guilty to leading a criminal enterprise. In July 2026, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. After decades on the run, El Mayoโ€™s story ended behind bars in the United States.
