I was swooning over the dark Gothic magic of Lyndhurst mansion in Tarrytown NY. 🌳 If you make it to the Hudson River Valley, you must take a tour up and down the river!
It is filled with charming towns and historic mansions. Built in 1838, Lyndhurst mansion is an example of Gilded Age Gothic Revival architecture at its finest. It looks out over the Hudson River and was used as a major filming location for HBO’s “The Gilded Age” as well as the estate in the 1970s “Dark Shadows” films. Even though we didn’t tour the inside, I found the estate beautiful and worth a visit. If time allowed, I would of taken the indoor tour. While we were there, we observed a handful of artists painting on the grounds overlooking the Hudson River. It felt like I was transported back to the early 19th century. The Hudson River School was America’s first major art movement. It was a collection of landscape painters who captured New York’s wilderness and river valley. 🏞️
