I loved the idea of a little town obsessed with Halloween all year round. Tourists come for the autumn atmosphere and everyone knows everyone. Wren returns for the summer and meets Dane, a mysterious doctor who is trying to escape his problems. I really liked Dane, the Hot Doc π He seemed like a guy with a big heart. He even joined Wrenβs dance classes to support a boy whose dad didnβt want him to dance. I thought that was really sweet.
The romance itself wasnβt quite for me though. I felt like there was too much focus on Wren and Daneβs physical attraction. I love a slow burn with plenty of tension so I wanted more time for them to get to know each other. I just didnβt feel that emotional connection between them. But thatβs my personal preference.
One part in the second half completely surprised me. Until then we were just following everyday life in this cosy little town. Suddenly we learn about Daneβs work as a trauma surgeon and an earthquake rescue mission. It was only a short chapter but there was so much detail that I got really invested. I love a good catastrophe story and honestly wanted to read more about him helping people. I was disappointed with how it was resolved though.
Overall it was a cute read. The ghosts didnβt play a big part in the story but their little comments were a fun addition βΊοΈ Iβd still give the next book a try because the friendship group and the whole setting won me over. If you enjoy cosy small town romances with instant attraction and a few ghosts, this could be for you. I also absolutely love the colours and design of this cover, it has perfect Halloween vibes π₯°
