Nobuhira NARUMI, ‘Condensed Time (6)_b, archive note: Drawing Through Three Temporalities’, 2026, oil on linen, 73 x 61 cm., in our current show ‘SEEING TIME’.

SEEING TIME brings together the work of three Japanese contemporary artists — Yuka Mori, Nobuhira Narumi and Anna Yamanishi — whose practices offer different ways of sensing and perceiving time.

Rather than presenting time as a linear sequence, the exhibition approaches it as something layered and elastic: sometimes accumulated, sometimes suspended, and sometimes revealed through a shift in perception. Across painting and sculpture, the artists invite us to slow down and become attentive to what happens between one moment and the next.

For Nobuhira Narumi (°1968), time becomes perceptible through the process of painting. Each mark is made at a particular moment. Repetition, accumulation, erasure and layering allow individual moments and gestures to remain within the surface as traces of actions that have taken place. His paintings do not represent time; they condense it. As the eye moves across the surface, different densities and intervals emerge, making looking itself an experience of duration. Time can become visible, not as an image of time, but as an experience of seeing.
