Congratulations to Dr Giovanni Tretola and Professor Konstantina Vogiatzaki on receiving a Best Paper Award at the international ILASS conference in Lisbon for research into how machine learning can predict the speeds of droplets in liquid sprays.
Why does this matter? Droplet behaviour plays a role in technologies such as fuel injection and combustion. Their model can estimate a distribution of droplet speeds much faster than detailed computer simulations, under the conditions studied.
The Oxford team also presented five other pieces of research at the conference.
