Folate is essential during pregnancy, but its importance does not end there.

In this conversation, Dr. John Gaitanis explains why adequate folate is so important before and during pregnancy—and how cerebral folate deficiency may later present through concerns such as developmental regression or seizures.

When a child suddenly loses skills, it is not something we should dismiss or simply wait out. Regression is communication from the brain and deserves a thoughtful medical evaluation to understand what may be interfering with normal function.

Supplement needs and forms are individual, so families should always discuss them with a knowledgeable clinician.

This conversation is from Episode #47 of Demystifying PANS/PANDAS: “Why Sudden Skill Loss Is a Medical Emergency.” Listen to the full episode wherever you get your podcasts.

This is so important- it is beyond Autism as this enlightening study with Pans/pandas shows. Supplementing pregnant mothers and young developing children with methyl folate or folinic acid vs synthetic folate could have tremendous impact in our overall societal health. 🔥👏🙌
