Its fear of the unknown, fear of the what ifs. Women need real discussions on birth. Not just a " what type of birth do you want * tick a box * exercise. I had a woman who was predicted LGA - had an amazing discussion of what would we do if it occured. That 20 or so minute honest, detailed discussion made such a difference. She did have a SD . But her words about the team and that discussion stuck by me. (.my first experience of a SD too )

As a midwife, when I teach the mechanics of labour and birth and parents truly understand how the body works, you can see their confidence grow. They believe they can do this. Fear and lack of knowledge is the whole problem. We don’t spend enough time teaching this important information.
