I’m proud to belong to the newly formed @artistsaa_, positioning itself at the forefront of the Australian music industry - seeking to protect our beautiful talented community at a time of extraordinary change and complexity.
Our government has truly drunk the kool aid when it comes to AI, they went from being world-leading advocates for our copyright to being up for throwing all artists (and even our global peers) under a bus, just so we can have giant data centres built in our communities that also seems to be occurring without much community consultation 🤔
4/5 Australians want our copyright act to continue to protect artists and their works… I wish @albomp and the Federal Government would listen to their own consituents, and not the tech bros who promise the world, and create tech without thinking about community safety, need or impact… like it seems everyone in Silicon Valley does, whilst trying to become a be-squillionaire (looking at you Elizabeth Holmes).
Australian artists, please join me!!

We have a strong union that is leading the charge in all of these places and not only has musicians in positions of power/leadership, but is linked to other creative workforces that are experiencing similar issues. I would be interested to hear why you’re backing a new coalition that’s working in this area? I’m a strong believer in collective action, however I’m seeing a number of groups like this pop-up and I worry that this gives the illusion of collective action rather than actually acting as collective action

Is the Aliance intending to be a far more outspoken, demanding body than the other existing bodies? My feeling is it’s past the time for polite conversations and subsidies. Strikes and protests !

This is exciting to see, Nat! It’s important stuff and the organisational element of doing something collective is really good, especially for those of us musicians and artists who have often spent a long time doing things by ourselves! I’ve been involved with the @featuredartistscoalition & @wearethemu for a good few years now, and it feels an important moment to ensure we speak with a collective voice. I don’t know if there are any plans for international affiliation but it’s a heartening to see something happening over there, and wishing you all the best with it!

Yep I joined today, it’s a great initiative. There are so many issues impacting our culture and the music industry. Time to stand up and be a force for change.
