You might know Greg Wise as swoonsome Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility (1995) where he met his future wife, Dame Emma Thompson, on set; or from his roles in Cranford, The Outcast, The Crown or The Buccaneers. But Wise is also a passionate advocate for talking openly about grief, particularly among men, and is a patron of End of Life Doula UK.

In this conversation, we discuss the depths of trauma and grief, learning to take rejection as an actor, his and Emma’s experience of IVF, and the unconventional way they built their family.

Meghan Markle and her father, Thomas Markle Sr., have been estranged since 2018. For years, much of the press settled on a simple explanation: she was a snob who had married a prince and discarded her commoner father. Last Friday, allegations against Markle Sr. for possession of child-sexual-abuse images became public, and he is now being investigated by police in the Philippines. John, you were a true legend, but more than that, you were one of my favorite human beings to ever walk this planet.

I first met John Frieda in India in 1990. Our time there is a whole other story—magical, life-changing, and the beginning of something extraordinary.

Years later, through Brooke Wall, our paths crossed again, and we went on to become partners for 10 incredible years. We opened our first salon on Melrose Place, which became iconic, and together we made magic.

I absolutely adored John. The laughter, the adventures, the creativity, the unforgettable experiences—we truly had the time of our lives.

Thank you, John, for changing my life in more ways than you could ever imagine. I will forever cherish our friendship, our memories, and all the magic we created together. You will always have a place in my heart.

Rest in peace, my dear friend. ❤️

Sending all my love to John’s family and everyone who was lucky enough to know and love him🤍🙏🏻🕊️
