One of the highlights of screening Sixteen Years at Cardozo Law School for Wrongful Conviction Day was meeting exonerees Derrick Hamilton and Nelson Cruz.
Every time I meet someone who has survived a wrongful conviction, I’m reminded that behind every case, every headline, and every exoneration is a human being whose life was forever changed.
Hearing their experiences and spending time with people who understand the devastating consequences of our justice system getting it wrong is something I never take for granted.
What an extraordinary evening, and what a privilege to be surrounded by people whose stories and resilience continue to inspire my work. ❤️
