Join us next week for WERC_In_Progress presentation about Lumo.

Lumo is the family name for art installations that connect natural processes, art and technology. WERC calls such an installation a “digital organism,” inspired by the biological processes that take place within groups of organisms such as a flock of starlings, a swarm of fireflies or a school of fish. Within these groups, individual animals react to each other at lightning speed, without central control. This is called swarm intelligence. The result is emergence: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and often of great beauty.

Each of these works relies on research into hardware and firmware, and on how they are integrated into their respective biotopes.

With this WERC_in_Progress, WERC lifts the hood on these artworks, shows the experiments behind them and asks: what happens if all these works communicate with each other, and what does that mean for the biotopes they live in?

WERC will show earlier research, test setups and loose steps from the process of each artwork, together with unfinished family members that have never been seen before.

Discover our inspiration and techniques. Get an exclusive look at our prototypes. Think, and experiment with us!

When? Thursday, November 5th, 20:00 (8 PM) (doors open 19:30)
Where? WERC Studio_Neutronstraat 7-18, Groningen
