Who would’ve thought we’d end up buying one of her boards a few months ago? Ever since I first tried surfing, her photos and the way she lived her dream as a surfer and a Roxy girl have always inspired me. I was so excited to try her board, hoping some of her surfing skills would rub off on me. 😂 I even bragged about it here in Real the moment we got it, telling everyone it used to be Bea V’s board. 🥹🏄‍♀️

Swallowing pills can be surprisingly difficult for some people, especially when dealing with larger capsules that seem to get stuck in the throat. However, a simple adjustment to your head position may make the process considerably easier. Unlike many traditional tablets, capsules are often less dense than water, meaning they tend to float rather than sink. When someone tilts their head backward while drinking, the capsule can move toward the front of the mouth instead of traveling smoothly toward the throat. Researchers have found that a technique known as the lean-forward method can help people swallow capsules more comfortably by taking a sip of water, placing their chin toward their chest and swallowing while leaning forward.

What makes this technique particularly interesting is that it goes against what many people instinctively do when taking medication. Most people assume throwing their head backward will help a pill slide down faster, but that movement isn’t necessarily helpful for floating capsules. A 2014 study published in Annals of Family Medicine found that the lean-forward technique improved capsule swallowing for many participants who previously struggled with taking pills. However, the method isn’t appropriate for every medication or everyone with swallowing difficulties, so following medication instructions remains important. It’s fascinating how something as simple as changing the angle of your head can make an everyday task noticeably easier. Some people spend their entire lives struggling to swallow capsules without realizing there might be a much simpler technique. 😭

PICTURE IT: Early November 1973 (believed to be Nov. 3rd or 4th) • 1317 Favell Drive, Memphis.

Elvis had just gotten out of the hospital days earlier, following a few rough months:

🗓️ Sep. 3: He fires the Colonel after a wild and unpredictable closing show in Vegas (spoiler alert: they reconciled, much to our dismay).

🗓️ Oct. 9: His divorce becomes final.

🗓️ Oct. 15: He enters the hospital, where he remains until Thursday, November 1, with girlfriend Linda Thompson by his side.

That weekend, Elvis and Linda visit her brother Sam. Also there are Sam’s wife, Linda’s parents, and Elvis’ stepbrother Ricky. Before long, Elvis picks up Sam’s old guitar and starts singing a number of songs, including two of his famous show openers: “See See Rider” and “That’s All Right.”

How grateful are we that they hit record!?

Listen closely, and you can almost sense Elvis’ mood: Quiet. Reflective. Weary. Vulnerable.
