Analyst comment: Attacks using small craft to attach explosives, such as limpet mines, to ships will be difficult for U.S. forces to counter. A device attached by a boat in a matter of minutes leaves little warning. The strait is crowded with dhows, fishing boats and other small craft, and analysts believe Iran retains hundreds of small boats of its own. A U.S. official told Reuters this month that the IRGC is already using dhows as spotters. A hostile boat can look like legitimate traffic until it is alongside a ship, and U.S. forces must weigh the risk of striking civilian craft. They also can’t screen every tanker on the U.S. guided route.

This graphic produced by the U.S. from a previous limpet mine incident shows examples of both a mine emplaced on the hull and damage resulting from the detonation of a mine.

All you have to do is have teams with 240s on watch 24 7.

This is why Navy ships have a SIZEABLE "no go zone" which is monitors both electronically and visually whenever it is underway, with ships that encroach on this zone getting radio and loudspeaker warnings before having a belt-fed string some rounds into the water in front of their box as final warning.

Take out any boat that gets within a mile of a ship. Pretty simple. There should not be boats in the straight until Iran is gone.

Create a shipping lane, solely for tankers. If you enter it you die in any other type of vessel. Problem solved

Strike the civilian boats who come close to tankers, problem solved. Trying to play nice will get you killed.

The great super power Iran has to use fishing boats to sneak and attach mines to CIVILIAN ships! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄🙄 what a joke Iran is! The Iranian navy is a few speed boats and some rpgs 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️that’s pirates not a navy!

So there are mines, but not the kind we expected. Kind of a wordplay from the IRGC.
