A painting by rock legend and artist Herman Brood has been added to the National Collection, placing Brood in the company of Dutch icons such as Rembrandt, Ferdinand Bol, Piet Mondriaan and Karel Appel.
“We believe that Herman Brood should be given more prestige as an icon of the twentieth century as an artist,” said the cultural heritage anency (RCE).
The untitled acrylic work, made with an ever-present injection syringe and paint rollers, features two men with a pistol. It has been hanging on the wall of the tax office in The Hague but was moved earlier this week to the RCE’s depot in Amersfoort, where it’s been given the name “rock-‘n-roll on canvas”.
