The New York Times reports that the State Department plans to redirect $48.5 million intended for family planning and reproductive health care in low-income countries. This follows repeated moves to withhold, rescind, or leave unspent U.S. funding for these essential services.
“The consequences of these decisions are not theoretical: Every dollar withheld has a human cost,” PAI President and CEO Nabeeha Kazi Hutchins told the Times.
Congress must protect the funding it approved and ensure it reaches the people it was intended to serve.
