Steady trade winds keep warm water piled up near Indonesia. When they weakened in this year's strong El Niรฑo, the pile slid back east along the equator as a Kelvin wave, a bulge only inches tall but longer than California's whole coast. It crossed the ocean, hit Ecuador, split, and ran north up the coast to California.
Higher water lets tides and storm waves reach farther up the beach, so it can mean more flooding and erosion, and forecasters expect more of these waves through February.

Pendulum... Kinda like how US society works. Someone violates the constitution, and we suffer.. then we look at that, fix it and become stronger. Term limits, age limits, proof of life, coequal branches, checks and balances, bribery, accountability, immigration, refuge to foreign villains. Oh.. and the Epstein files. For the Epsteinth time. Has anyone heard of climate change? The scientists have been warning โ ๏ธ us for decades. Yet the world leaders and all of us do little about possible solutions. Now people have their hair on fire. ๐ฅ And I imagine there are still many climate deniers.
