#NOWNESSShorts: Origin Story (2026) dir. Marcela Jacobina
For the short film Origin Story, Brazilian director Marcela Jacobina reflects on the United States’ cultural and political influence over Latin America
Starring Valentina Herszage as Sofia, a young Brazilian actress, ‘Origin Story’ captures the gradual unravelling of a casting audition for an American film as it departs from the familiar
Between the faceless director and rising tensions that cut through the mechanical pace of the selection process, ‘Origin Story’ examines the possibility of reclaiming authorship over identities long shaped from afar, while Sofia sees her own character shift under abrasive demands and the invisible shadow of control
