Catskills Weekend Fishing Outlook

October 31–November 1, 2026 🎃👻🎣

Go into this weekend ready to fish below the surface, keep your approach subtle, and adjust to what the river shows you. Small flies are worth carrying, but rising fish—not the calendar—should determine when you switch to dries.

Beaver Kill
With water running low, careful movement and clean drifts matter. Start with a small nymph beneath a dry. Later-day warming may create a surface opportunity; look for consistent rises before trying small olive or midge patterns.

Willowemoc Creek
Consider another river this weekend. Very low water leaves trout with fewer holding options and makes disturbance harder to avoid. If you do fish, approach deeper water quietly and keep your nymph presentation close to the bottom.

West Branch Delaware
Higher flows make this a different proposition from the other rivers. Wading options are limited, while a properly planned boat trip may offer opportunities to fish streamers. Adjust size, color, and retrieve to fish response, and check the flow and full route before launching.

East Branch Delaware
Expect demanding low-water fishing. A small dry-dropper is a practical starting point, with attention to depth and drag. If fish begin rising repeatedly, try a tiny olive or midge behind a dry you can see more easily.

Neversink River
Low water makes this a weekend to choose another destination. Give the river some space and revisit the plan when flows improve.

Esopus Creek
Current local detail is limited, so check flow and clarity before committing. Carry small nymphs and olive or midge options, but treat those as preparation—not a promised hatch. Let conditions and feeding activity guide the day.

Watch where you wade. Avoid redds and leave actively spawning trout undisturbed. #avoidredds #AnglerBrief #CatskillsFlyFishing #Beaverkill #FlyFishing DryDropper
